The weather has started to get even warmer, winter has faded for the season and spring is upon us! At this time of year it’s a great time to ask yourself: Are you ready to SPRING into action? Is it time to make better sleep a priority? Isn’t everyone looking to get a little more sleep? Well it’s time to get ready to change up your sleep habits!
At last, winter is finally over and everything even in the desert of our St. George mattress store is starting turning greener, and we can’t get enough! Along with the brightly colored blossoms on the trees, it’s time to refresh, renew, and CLEAN up your sleeping habits! Here are a few of our favorite ways to “Spring Clean” your sleep schedule:
S- No Snacking Before Bed
We know, late night snacks are tempting! But did you know that eating before bed can actually keep you awake  and lead to weight gain? Seriously!
P- Power Off Electronics
Browsing Instagram, Facebook, or checking a few emails before bed actually sends a message to your brain, preventing it from releasing the sleep chemical: Melatonin. It might be difficult, but see if you can keep any devices “powered off” for a period of time before going to sleep.
R- For Routine
Humans are creatures of habit, after all! If you haven’t already, It’s time to develop a routine. Wake up at the same time every day and find a consistent bedtime to stick to. Try and aim for 7 or 8 hours of sleep per night.  Once you’ve grown accustomed to your schedule, your body will have no trouble “powering down” when it happens at the same time every night!
I- Increase Daily Exercise (But Never Before Bed!)
Spend some time every day doing your favorite form of cardio! The National Sleep Foundation has found that people who exercise more tend to sleep better. However, giving your body time to “cool off” before bed is important. Make the three hours before bed an off-limits time for workouts.
N- Naps Are Everything!
When timed correctly, anyway. Limiting naps to less than 45 minutes is shown to dramatically improve brain function and focus. Keeping you naps short won’t mess up your nightly sleep schedule. You’ll feel so much more productive throughout the day! If you don’t have time for a midday nap, see if you can try to work in a 5 minute snooze! Even small 5 minute naps are incredibly beneficial.
G- Get A New Mattress!
When you’re done cleaning your baseboards and scrubbing your tire grout (seriously, the worst chore!) it’s time to take a serious look at your mattress! Mattresses have a healthy life span of about eight years. If you can’t remember when you bought it, you can check the tag on the back of the mattress!
It’s important to replace a mattress every eight years because mattresses essentially absorb dead skin, sweat, and dust mites. Yuck! If you’ve started to wake up with a host of aches and pains, it might be time to replace your mattress. Fortunately, we can help! Visit one of our St. George, Mesquite, or Las Vegas mattress store locations for excellent deals and specials. We’ll help you get the best sleep of your life!
